Graphics: Machi (Nagasarete Airantou)
Well~ I was lazing around in the office today and had nothing much to do, so I opened up Photoshop and started to try to draw something using the pen tool since it’s one of the best tool you can do to draw lines. I’ve been attending manga lessons for quite some time and it’s almost coming to an end for the basic and a test is coming up so I thought I might as well practice (well~ it’s suppose to be on paper but ah well~) abit. I was planning to draw something like a mix of Nagato (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu) and Aono (sola) but I failed… It ended up looking somewhat like Machi (Nagasarete Airantou), but I guess it must be because that I’ve been reading too much of the manga. _| ̄|○
I’m quite an amateur still though. By the way, I did save some step by step progress so you might want to take a look at it. Those who want to have the final product and PSD file can feel free to download it at the end of the post. I might attempt to color this when I learn how to.
Do full view the pictures to see the details. =)

Let’s see… So I started off by drawing the face and the head. I had guidelines to help me determine the position of the eyes, face and lips. Yeah~ The head looks very big but that’s the way it is. The eye lashes were quite a pain but practice makes perfect!

Next up was filling in the hair. See the pointed part at the top? That was my guideline so that the hair will flow towards that direction so that it won’t look messy. Started off with the overall mass before I worked on the remaining hairlines. Of course I removed the lines for the head later on so that it won’t look weird.

Next up, the back and side of the hair. Since she had long hair, I started off with the pony tails. After that, I tried to draw the remaining hair and trying to match it with the rest especially the ones on the right. See how it connects? Also added eye brows this time since I could determine where the forehead was. And added ribbons to the ponytail. Not totally identical at both sides but i guess it’ll do. Also drew her body, whereby she’s wearing a miko, so it’s relatively simple.

In the end, I realised that I forgotten about the ears! So I added those. I guess it’s quite good to add it last anyway since I had to determine which part of the hair actually goes in front of it and all. Also added some minor details to it such as the blushes. Did abit more of the touch-ups and it’s done!
It’s only a frontal view of it so I didn’t really draw the body since I didn’t had time and I would have screwed it up anyway. =X
Alright, here’s the PSD file and final product that I promised to upload. Hope you could learn something from it. =D

It’s good to know that you didn’t waste your money on that course. Oh but there’s something unnatural about the position of her fringe. Then again, it could boil down to style since I usually keep my hair in a singular direction, to stipulate wind direction.

I think that’s what her fringe is like anyhows so it’s all good.
