The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya (In English, Duh?)

I was surfing around in YouTube one fine day looking for Lucky Star clips when I suddenly got bored and went to check back the old Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu clips since they were quite a hit back then like how Lucky Star is now. I came across something which killed me due to my curiosity.

Just before we go on, let’s enjoy this nice wallpaper, proudly brought to you by Ningen. Of course I’m also using this right now (Nagato is the love!!!) as my wallpaper.

Of course as you can see, the title of this post is the English version of 涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱 (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu) so now the reason behind this.

This totally blew me away.

Ok so that aside, thinking that the OP and ED might have been done by another voice actress, I checked the show itself for abit.

Presenting you the well known EPISODE 00. _| ̄|○

Alright… Some thoughts… Let’s just say, I wasn’t too used to it at the very first time. Haruhi sounds weird, Mikuru was quite good (only at the moaning and whining part) but the usualy speech turned me off. Nagato sounded dead (Noo!!! How can you do that do her?!). Itsuki sounded the most normal apparantly and Kyon wasn’t too bad (perhaps it doesn’t have the sarcasm vibes in him).

Of course I still prefered the orginal Japanese seiyuus but the English voice actors are THAT bad I suppose (after you get used to it that is…)

Sounds perfectly fine. Of course, these English actors aren’t as good but surely their acting job is decent in this case.

    Yuki’s English voice rocks btw.

  6. Kag Says:

LOL wth their voice sounds like some text to speech

Actually, this is one of the better dubs out. The only voice I really found fault with is Mikuru’s. The Japanese penchant for high-pitched voices for girls doesn’t translate well into the lower pitched American English, and I feel that they tried to keep to the tone of Mikuru’s Japanese actress too much.

Actually I thought that wasn’t bad at all, it was pretty good once you get used to it. Though yeah, Kyon needs more sarcasm xD I actually thought the OP and the ED was bad haha. I guess I’m just used to the original songs, so yeah.

I actually thought the dub wasn’t too bad. I also had a few issues with the lack of sarcasm in Kyon’s voice, but the overall quality of the dub isn’t bad at all.

Just to confirm, the OP and ED are fandubs rather than official dubs, right? It seems a few commenters thought they were official releases.

Ahaha~ I’m not too sure. I just found it amusing so that made me checked out Episode 00. So those weren’t the official ones? *Recall the days of the English Dub Cardcaptor Sakura OP & ED days* *shivers*

  13. Anca Says:

I’m pretty sure this is a fandub… not an official dub.

  14. xXMikotoNakadaiXx Says:

Yup, it’s a fandub. Watched the dub… it was nothing like that. o_O They didn’t even translate the OP and ED lol
